[Costco] Lean Basis Beef ~$6.6/kg
- Savings:
- 20% off
- Retailer:
- Costco
Costco has packs of lean footing beef at $4 off their regular price. The price comes out to ~$6.6 per kg. They usually disbelieve the large tubes by $4, only on the $21 packs of beef, that is a huge savings imo.
edit: this was at the Etobicoke location in instance this is a regional or store specific deal.

I retrieve it'south made from fresh/frozen, while you can get all fresh from other grocery stores. But so people know if information technology makes a difference to them.

It'southward really not that cheap compared to the discount grocery stores that sell at $2-three/lbs, which is less expensive than $6.6/kg.
I establish that supermarket ground beef sometimes has a funny taste or a smell to information technology. Maybe its just anecdotal but information technology's reassuring seeing the meat get candy in the Costco facility, which looks make clean to me.
I'd rather pay a pocket-size premium for Costco meats than a supermarket like freshco or no frills.

Fifty-fifty Safeway/Sobeys/Co-op regularly take sales at $two.99 per pound.

This is very much YMMV. I've been at a Costco twice in i week and one time the basis beef had a rebate and later on in the week information technology was regular price. My guess is it's related to the supply they have in-store since they don't keep it over for the next twenty-four hour period.
I'm out Due west and the ground beef was $viii.99/kg this Tuesday (no rebate).

I hear they also grind in steak trimmings into information technology. I love the beef that they stock at Costco. Very practiced quality.

I added the location in case this is a shop specific deal. It was at the Etobicoke (off the QEW) location.

Costco as a policy specifically stocks loftier quality meats. For beef I believe they merely stock AA or AAA and their buyers are picky about the sub grades. High quality meat is part of Costco'due south strategy in attracting and retaining members (source: I looked into their stock as an equity analyst in the past).

Some more info if you are interested: their standard markup is 15% over their cost for not-Kirkland products, and 18% for Kirkland label (crazy low gross margin for retail, they become profits off of volume and memberships). Their target demographic is college mid-income to high income households, like to Amazon Prime.

You're totally right! I always bank check the Safeway flyer for that deal. I love their meat and they always accept employees stocking the meat department whenever I have a question. It's great.

Costco ground beef is about 85-88% lean. You might be comparison it to extra lean ground beefiness which is common in grocery stores and is 10% or less fatty %.

Recently I had a visit and my mother told me that if the fatty content of the lean beef was 17% or less, to buy her a pack. I took a look, and that twenty-four hours'due south batch didn't take labels, and so I decided to ask a staffer who was looking over the meat department. I asked him what the fat content was. He told me that under Canadian law, "lean" is divers every bit no more 17% fatty, withal, Costco shop policy is no more than fifteen% fatty. He explained that every batch they grind they record the fat content in a log book. He summoned a guy from the dorsum to bring a label for my pack of footing beefiness, equally well as the LOG Volume. He then proceeded to show me a column of figures with the fat content of the days' batches (there had been ii already and it was barely apex), too as the fat content of the previous couple of days' batches recorded on the same page. The figures were manus-written, and hovered between 12% and 14.v%, never higher. Interestingly, the characterization says 17% fat content, just those are pre-printed labels, and I guess requite the stores some elbowroom.
That said, if you are reading the labels, note that the left cavalcade of figures states number of grams of fatty in a 100 g portion. And so 17 grand equates to 17% fat content. Do not make the mistake that my mother made, reading the pct of fatty in the right hand column which represents the amount of fat that a 100 m portion contains, as a per centum of the boilerplate person's recommended daily intake.
The guy seemed very knowledgeable and friendly, taking the time to testify me all of this. Another reason why I beloved that store. Great shopping experience on all fronts.

No we even bought lean at grocery store once to compare, weighted an even quantity and cooked both separately in the aforementioned pan for the same time. More than fatty in the Costco ane but I don't remember numbers

Saw $4 OFF lean ground beefiness today at Markham East too, wasn't shopping for that and so didn't pay much attention if that's the tube or parcel.
